Andrew is a founding partner of Sum who enjoys strategic business planning as well as being ‘hands on’, developing bespoke services for key clients. He is delighted to have completed the Goldman Sachs 10k Small Businesses programme for Yorkshire and the Humber (Cohort 9) with the Leeds University Business School and enjoys being an alumni member.
Andrew studied Commercial Management and Quantity Surveying at Loughborough University before completing an MSc in Construction Law and Arbitration at Leeds Beckett University. He is an experienced Employers Agent, Contract Administrator, Quantity Surveyor and member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. In addition, he is a member of the QSi and a Practicing Associate of The Academy of Experts having studied at The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn.
Andrew has spent over a decade developing the business and the boutique brand to what it is today. Above all, he cares about the business, its values and how it is perceived. Andrew enjoys entertaining, is an armchair sports fan and loves weekends with his two sons Harry and William.
Walter is a partner of Sum who exhibits the strategic and forensic skills to resolve the most complex of issues and disputes. He brings the niche skills to the business which epitomise the ethos of the Sum brand.
He read Construction Law and Dispute Resolution at Leeds Beckett University and is qualified to represent parties in Adjudication having completed the RICS Diploma in Adjudication. Walter is a committee member and acting Chairman of the CIArb North East Branch and sits on the Yorkshire Arbitration Scheme panel of Arbitrators. In addition, he is a member of the AICA.
Walter has extensive knowledge of the steelwork industry and is an Expert in quantum and delay analysis. He considers many of our valued steel clients to be good friends of the business. Walter is passionate about our brand, our people and our future. He supports Glasgow Rangers, enjoys horse racing and likes to socialise!
Tom is our resident expert in all things Contract and handles our Clients interests in Adjudication with great enthusiasm. He has developed our Contract review services for the benefit of the End User, Main Contractor and Subcontractor alike. In addition, he offers contractual advice to Professional Consultants and provides training on the NEC3 suite.
He studied Construction Management before completing an MSc in Construction Law and Dispute Resolution at Leeds Beckett University and is a member of the CIArb. Tom is passionate about Construction Law and is trusted to contribute facts and be fair in negotiations between two parties. His expertise in Contract was further recognised by the British Constructional Steelwork Association having been appointed to their Contracts Committee in 2014.
Tom brings reflection and consideration to the management team and has become an inherent part of the Sum business and its future.
He is married to the lovely Charlotte and is a proud father to their little daughter Kate!
Ed is a member of the Cost Management team. He is an ambitious individual who brings professionalism and property experience to the business. He is a multi-disciplined professional with a public relations, marketing and business development focus.
He studied Business Management before taking an MSc in Quantity Surveying at Leeds Beckett University. He is a member of the AECB, CIOB, RICS and is passionate about sustainability and advancements in the way that we deliver services. He has carried out in depth research into B.I.M. and is keen to develop a clients understanding about how best to adopt, manage and benefit from managing projects in the future.
Ed is a proactive individual, a bit of a handy man, can’t speak Polish and promotes our company values to future clients.
Rizwan specialises in Structural Steelwork.
He is ambitious and diligent, with an innate desire to want to achieve and succeed as a Quantity Surveyor. Possess excellent foresight and judgement, with a sharp eye for accuracy and value for money. Rizwan enjoys being part of, as well as motivating a successful team and thrives in highly pressurised and challenging working environments. He is able to take in new ideas and adapt quickly to new situations, ensuring that all tasks are seen through to completion in the best way possible.
Rizwan studied Quantity Surveying at Leeds Metropolitan University where he gained a BSc(Hons). He brings a considered approach to the steel team and has become an inherent part of the companies Niche Services offering.
Sam is a Quantity Surveyor with a background in steelwork, having worked for a specialist subcontractor involved in the design, manufacture, treatment, delivery and erection of steel structures for the construction industry. He now applies that knowledge to support many of our steelwork clients. He has a wealth of experience in a niche area which epitomises the Sum business.
He studied Construction at Bradford College completing an ONC in 2010. Sam has always been interested in reading and studying business.
Sam is a member of the Huddersfield Amateurs Football Club as well as a member of the Halifax Catholic Memorial Club. He enjoys watching most sports and participating in football and golf. Sam currently heads our Premier League Fantasy Football league: “Win Sum Lose Sum”!
Chris is a project Cost Manager who demonstrates a keen eye for detail.
He currently studies Quantity Surveying at Leeds Beckett University where he is due to graduate in 2017 following a placement year working in the Education sector with Sum.
Chris is passionate about sustainability and in particular, working on projects which have a positive social impact.
He is a confident, outgoing individual with a number of interests outside of work. Chris plays rugby for a local club and can be found playing the guitar and singing in pubs and clubs. He also loves going to festivals dressed in rainbow gear!
Sam is an Apprentice Cost Manager who joined our Academy in 2015.
He joined the business as an Apprentice and is currently studying for a Diploma in ‘Construction & the Built Environment’ at Leeds College of Building. With a successful academic history, Sam is a self-motivated individual who is eager to acquire new skills working within a professional construction consultancy. He has gained a great deal of construction knowledge having worked for a Contractor which he profoundly enjoyed before joining Sum.
Sam is a keen footballer, is passionate about F1, likes to get involved with D.I.Y. and enjoys eating out with friends and family.
Mike is an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a wealth of experience in steelwork having worked for a specialist subcontractor for many years. He is a former Contracts Director of a large UK steel fabricator where he was responsible for all contract and commercial aspects of their projects. Mike has strong relationships with our key clients and considers them to be close friends.
Robot Food were appointed as brand guardians to Sum in Autumn 2011. Simon, Mike, Martin, Julia and Lee continue to provide the business with on-going design and digital services. The Robot Food team are considered friends of the business.
Hayley is an experienced Practice Manager and Book Keeper. She used to manage the companies back office support functions prior to setting up her own book keeping business H.R. Accounting and starting a family. Hayley continues to support the business as an external service provider.
Colin is a former manager of our pre-contract services team. He was instrumental in developing our client base in the builder’s quants division in the early years of the business. Colin now consults exclusively for our business in semi-retirement. Colin has building and engineering experience with a bias toward the civil engineering sector having worked in the Middle East and Sweden on petrochemical projects. He now provides expert measurement opinion and supports the Sum business when required.
